Between December 2018 and January 2019, PWDA and Youth Action ran consultation surveys with young people with disability and youth workers as a part of the Creating Access project. This was to help us understand the barriers faced by young people with disability when accessing youth services. We also wanted to understand the areas in which youth workers would like to increase their knowledge and confidence in supporting young people with disability.

The surveys were promoted to young people with disability and youth workers via youth services, email, social media and many youth and disability sector networks. This promotion culminated in 34 young people with disability and 39 youth workers responding to the two surveys. A more detailed version of the survey results will be available on our website shortly.

The results from these surveys will help guide People with Disability Australia and Youth Action in the creation of ‘Disability Inclusion Toolkit’ available to the youth sector, as part of the Creating Access project. The toolkit will be used to help make youth services more accessible to young people with disability. It will also have resources included to support young people with disability advocating for things that are important to them, and information about topics that young people and youth workers want to learn more about.
