PWDA congratulates Queensland Premier

Wednesday 8 May 2013

People with Disability Australia (PWDA) welcomes today’s agreement between Prime Minister Gillard and Queensland Premier Campbell Newman signing up to DisabilityCare Australia (previously known as the National Disability Insurance Scheme).

“Premier Campbell’s announcement will ensure that more than approx. 97,000 Queenslanders with disability will receive the supports and services they need to step into economic and social participation in Australian society,” said Craig Wallace, President of People with Disability Australia.

“We congratulate Premier Newman for his leadership on funding issues as reportedly one of the first Premiers to raise a levy within COAG discussion,” said Mr Wallace.

“The proposed levy is strongly supported by People with Disability Australia as a sustainable way to fund this insurance premium into the future,” said Mr Wallace.

“Premier Campbell’s timely announcement leaves Western Australia as the last state still out in the cold along with the Northern Territory yet to commit,” said Craig Wallace. “People with Disability Australia call for WA and the NT to sign up to ensure a truly national footprint for the scheme and to ensure no Australians with a disability miss out.”
