NDIS and Advocacy Workshop

Since it was established in 2013, the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) has dramatically changed the way that many people with disability receive government support. However, understanding how to engage with the NDIS can be complicated and intimidating for many people.

Designed for people with disability or workers involved with supporting people with disability, this one-day workshop is all about demystifying the process of becoming a participant of the NDIS.

Understanding the process can help ensure that NDIS participants have a positive interaction with the NDIS and potentially avoid having to adjust their plans or engage in a lengthy NDIS review and appeals process.

  • Get the knowledge and skills you need to apply to the NDIS for yourself or on behalf of someone else.
  • Receive useful resources.
  • Learn from trainers with disability who are experts in accessing the NDIS.
  • Interact with our trainers as well as other participants, so you can ask questions and share knowledge.

Learn about:

  • What the NDIS is, how it operates, who’s eligible and how to apply for support.
  • The difference between the NDIS and other government health and education services.
  • Important words and their meaning in the context of applying to the NDIS.
  • What happens at a planning meeting with NDIS staff.
  • The difference between advocacy and self-advocacy.
  • The rights that people with disability have in relation to the NDIS.
  • The process for NDIS reviews and appeals, both internal and external.

Duration:

Full day (6 hours + 1 hour lunch break)

Suitable for:

  • Not-for-profit organisations
  • Government agencies
  • Community service providers
  • Any organisation providing support or services to people with disability
