Statistics show that the prevalence of sexual abuse of people with disability is of significant concern, and that most sexual abuse that occurs to people with a disability is perpetrated by someone they know and in a setting that they live or receive care in as a result of having a disability.

Designed for workers involved with supporting people with disability, this one-day or half-day workshop looks at how to recognise and respond to the sexual abuse of people with disability.

About this workshop

The workshop is interactive and involves group discussions as well as looking at the hard facts, all while being in a safe environment.

PWDA also offers training as part of our work providing disability support for the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse in preventing violence and abuse towards people with disability, including sexual assault.

Participants in this workshop will:

  • Get the knowledge and skills they need to understand the prevalence of sexual assualt of people with disability  
  • Receive useful resources.
  • Learn from trainers with disability
  • Interact with our trainers as well as other participants, so you can ask questions and share knowledge.

  • What sexual assault looks like with a disability lens.   
  • The different kinds of relationships that a person with a disability has and what is appropriate and not appropriate in those relationships.
  • How to respond and refer.

Duration

Full day (6 hours + 1 hour lunch break) | Half day (3 hours)

For over 20 years, we’ve been delivering education and training to empower people with disability to take control of their own lives and to help workers in the broader community improve how they work with, provide services for and support people with disability.

The workshops and training activities we provide are developed and presented by people with disability and focus on providing information in a productive and engaging format that delivers a meaningful outcome for all participants.

  • Our workshops can be delivered face-to-face if you’re in Sydney or can be provided online anywhere in Australia via the Zoom video conferencing platform.
  • Our workshops can be booked for any time during business hours.
  • The cost of our workshops varies depending on content, location, and number of participants. Please get in touch for a quote.
  • We have a minimum booking of 10 people and a maximum booking of 30 people for any session.
