A matter of communication

Asmaan, a young woman with disability, arrived in Australia 10 years ago as a refugee from Afghanistan, and was diagnosed with intellectual disability, and in desperate need of communication support.

However, Asmaan only received a small NDIS package which was insufficient to provide the necessary supports she needed.

How PWDA helped

When Asmaan and her family came to PWDA for assistance, we assisted them complete a review which increased her support plan substantially to $98,000 and were also able to connect her with Dari speaking support workers.

Asmaan has gained a new level of independence, regularly volunteers at a local care centre, and is also learning how to communicate with assistive technology.
