A matter of communication

Living with disability, Asmaan applied for an NDIS review to get the communication support she needed.

Asmaan arrived in Australia 10 years ago as a refugee from Afghanistan, and was diagnosed with intellectual disability. She was in desperate need of communication support.

However, Asmaan only received a small NDIS package which was insufficient to provide the necessary supports she needed.

How PWDA helped

When Asmaan and her family came to PWDA for assistance, we supported them to complete an NDIS review for a substantial increase to her support plan. PWDA also ensured Asmaan was able to access and connect with support workers who spoke Dari.

After NDIS support and support personnel who understand her, Asmaan has gained a new level of independence. She regularly volunteers at a local care centre, and is also learning how to communicate with assistive technology.
