PWDA has been working alongside the Australian Federation of Disability Organisations (AFDO) and the Justice and Equity Centre (JEC) as part of the Aviation Accessibility Steering Committee.
Community Information Forum: Explaining the aviation disability standards consultation process
As a group PWDA, AFDO and JEC are hosting a Community Information Forum to help people in the disability community participate in the new aviation disability standards consultation.

At this forum we will discuss:
- the consultation process so far
- what is included in the consultation paper
- how to share your views through the submission process.
This session is for information sharing about the process, but you will have a chance to ask questions during the question-and-answer part.
Who should attend this session?
The event is open to people with disability and community members who are interested in accessible air travel and who want to understand how they can participate in the aviation disability standards consultation process.
What are the aviation disability standards?
People with disability face significant and regular barriers when travelling by air.
Airport and airline services, policies and practices do not meet the needs of passengers with disability.
For years, the disability community has asked the Australian Government to do more to improve the accessibility of air travel.
The Government has committed to developing ‘Aviation Disability Standards’, which would be co-designed with people with disability.
When implemented, they would apply throughout Australia and set out requirements for airlines and airports to make their services accessible.

Consultation is now open on new aviation disability standards.
The Australian Government is calling on people with disability, family members, advocates, carers or friends to share their feedback on the new aviation disability standards.
Feedback gathered over the consultation period will help the Australian Government make sure air travel in Australia is accessible and inclusive for people with disability
