New options

Homeless person sitting outside on a cold grey day, wearing well-worn jacket, long pants, beanie and a hoodie, trying to warm up his hands, and looking sad and alone.

Oliver has a psychosocial disability and for 16 years, struggled to survive living on the Newstart allowance.

Despite his best efforts to remain in stable home, and the treatment he received for his disability, he had regularly become homeless due to the financial difficulties of attempting to make ends meet.

How PWDA helped

When Oliver approached PWDA for assistance, our advocates highlighted the extent of resources and support that he qualified for but did not know existed.

They also showed he met the requirements for the Disability Support Pension, which was far more suitable for his needs.

Once his claim was successful, it increased Oliver’s income and opened up new options, including now being able to maintain a home and reconnect with his family.
