We have lots of questions about the announcement this morning by the Minister for Social Services that there is to be a new taskforce to deal with fraud and the NDIS.
Here at PWDA, we’ve had reports of a few dodgy disability support organisations ripping off people with disability and not delivering the services they need, including private boarding houses in NSW.
Any new taskforce needs to focus on this kind of fraud and make sure that organisations that are meant to support people with disability are doing the right thing.
But the announcement isn’t clear whether this new taskforce will focus on disability providers, or on people with disability themselves. It’s also not clear how this will work with the new NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission, which is only just beginning to roll out around Australia.
More staff for the NDIS are very welcome, but we want to them to be working on making sure there are fewer delays for people with disability, and better plans for their supports.
