NDIS changes: Watch our community forum and find more information
Changes to the NDIS are starting to be introduced with more planned over the coming years.
PWDA held our NDIS Changes Community Forum on 18 September 2026 to provide practical, accessible information about what is changing, when different changes will happen and what people can do to prepare.
You can watch the information presented at the forum below and find links to further information and resources.
Watch the recording
The recording includes the information presented by speakers at the forum. To protect the privacy of participants, the community discussion and Q&A are not included.
The forum covered:
- what has changed and when different changes will start
- what is still being developed
- practical things participants can do now
- well-being strategies for managing uncertainty and change
- where to find further information, advocacy and support.
Practical things you can do now
There is a lot of information about the NDIS changes. You do not need to understand everything at once.
During the forum, we shared some practical steps you can take as the changes are implemented:
- Keep important information about your NDIS plan, supports and circumstances.
- Know what process you are in. If the NDIA contacts you, ask why they are contacting you, what process is happening, what they need from you and whether there is a deadline. You can also ask for important information in writing.
- Ask for communication that works for you, including accessible information or support to participate.
- Make sure your evidence explains your support needs, not only your diagnosis. Include what support you need, how much and how often, what happens without it, and whether your needs fluctuate. What you can do once, or on a good day, may not show what you can do safely and reliably over time.
- Read and keep decisions from the NDIA. Check what decision has been made, why it was made and the date of the decision.
- Check your review rights and any deadlines if you disagree with a decision.
- Get help if you need it.
You have a right to understand the process you are being asked to participate in and to ask questions when something is unclear.

PWDA’s explanation of the changes
PWDA has developed an explainer covering the major changes, when they start, what is still being developed and PWDA’s advocacy priorities.
It also includes our NDIS changes feedback form. You can use this form to tell us what you are experiencing as the changes are implemented.
What you share helps us identify patterns, understand where changes are causing problems or harm and inform our systemic advocacy and policy work.

Easy Read information
Inclusion Australia has developed an Easy Read resource explaining the NDIS changes and when they will happen.

New information about funding changes
Since the forum, the Department of Health, Disability and Ageing has published further information about changes to social, economic and community participation and improved daily living skills funding.
The information explains how the changes will be introduced, when they will apply to plans, supports that are not affected by the reductions, safeguards for people with high support needs and what participants can do if their circumstances or support needs change.
Read the Department’s Information about Funding Changes for NDIS Supports.
Have your say on changes still being developed
Passing the legislation did not settle every detail. Important parts of the NDIS reforms are still being developed.
The Department of Health, Disability and Ageing’s NDIS Reforms Consultation Hub includes opportunities to have your say on parts of the reforms that are still being designed.
Visit the NDIS Reforms Consultation Hub.
PWDA is also currently seeking feedback from people with disability about New Framework Planning and NDIS Rules. What people tell us will help inform our advocacy and submissions to Government.

Survey closes 11:59 pm AEST, Sunday 27 September 2026.
More information and resources are coming
Questions raised at the forum are helping PWDA understand where people need more information.
We are preparing further information about reviewable decisions and review processes, as well as plan reassessments and renewals. These resources will explain what we know, what has changed and what is still unclear.
We also heard questions about what support will be available to people outside the NDIS. With Thriving Kids services beginning to roll out and broader foundational supports still being developed, PWDA is planning to provide further information about what these changes mean for people with disability and their families and will continue advocating for people with disability.
We will continue exploring opportunities to provide relevant and accessible information to people impacted by the changes as implementation progresses and more detail becomes available.

PWDA opposed the NDIS legislation passing and raised serious concerns about what the changes could mean for people with disability. The legislation has now passed, but our advocacy continues.
We will keep pushing to reverse harmful changes where we can, minimise harm as changes are implemented, and make sure the experiences and expertise of people with disability are heard as the remaining details are designed.
